Parking for Pete’s Sake was formed to honor Peter J. Smith Sr. of Union Beach, NJ. Peter was a family man who loved life and had a gift of making people smile. He was a loving husband to his wife Catherine and wonderful father to his two children Julie and Peter. He cherished his grandchildren Jake, Payton, Olivia, and Kendyl.

Peter was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2000 and with that came many trips to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in NY. Parking and transportation expenses to and from the city can easily add up to $100 a day and unfortunately will never be covered by insurance. Soon after his passing in 2011, his family formed Parking For Pete’s Sake 501(c)(3) to help support others traveling for treatments and special services outside their community.

Our main fundraising event is a family bike ride held in September on the Jersey Shore. It is laid back, kid friendly, and there is always a celebration after! All riders are encouraged to wear helmets (children under 17 must wear helmets by law).
