Proceeds to benefit local boys battling Leukemia
News Release
Holmdel – HFCF’s Second Annual Golf Outing was held on Monday, July 25, 2011 at Bamm Hollow Country Club in Lincroft. Major sponsors of the event included the New Jersey State Police and The Wine Academy. HFCF’s inaugural golf outing raised close to $30,000 to further HFCF’s mission of helping area children and their families in times of need.
Golfers will played a scramble-format tournament with a 2pm shotgun start. The $300 fee included lunch and dinner. Driving, putting and chipping contests were held as well as a chance auction for special prizes including sports memorabilia as well as golf merchandise and services. Entertainment was provided by Tom Kanach and Tom Fish.
This year’s HFCF golf outing will honored two brave children in our community. The first is an eight-year little boy by the name of Albie-Joe Ostervich. Albie-Joe has been fighting Leukemia for more than four years. Albie-Joe was first diagnosed in June, 2007 and declared cancer-free in November of 2010. On March 26, Albie-Joe’s cancer returned and he is currently scheduled for a bone marrow transplant once all of his leukemic cells are eliminated. The Second child Luke Anshelewitz is 4 years old. He was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in November and is undergoing chemotherapy treatment at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Luke must undergo weekly and eventually monthly treatments for three years in order to cure his leukemia. A significant portion of the proceeds from the golf outing will help to offset the medical expenses for our two honoree’s.
“We were so excited to host HFCF’s Second Annual Golf Outing,” said Mark Pakrul, chair of this years event. “Last year’s event was spectacular and we the 2nd Annual Golf Outing proved to be a first-class golf outing for a great cause. Albie-Joe Ostervich and Luke Anshelewitz are brave little boys and we were proud to honor them and to help provide some peace of mind to their families.”
